The Luigans Spa and Resort is situated along the coasts of Shikanoshima Island, in the middle of the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park – the only resort on this government-managed park. Although it is probably more interesting to arrive at the resort by ferry, MICE groups would most likely travel to the resort by bus as the island is in fact connected to the mainland by road.

The theme at the Luigans is Mexican, hence there is a fair amount of wood décor used throughout the resort building, as well as ethnic Mexican and country-styled furniture and artifacts.

The main ballroom at the Luigans is the Grand Garden, which has a capacity of 180 guests in classroom-style or 300 guests in theatre-style seating. It has a decent ceiling height of 4 meters, but this is limited by some hanging lights. Although called the ‘Grand Garden’, the furniture and décor suggest a more homely feel than ‘Grand’. Even the garden, which comes with the booking of the ballroom, is more like a comfortable home-garden rather than an elaborately landscaped resort garden. This is an advantage for meetings because MICE delegates, being far away from home, need to feel relax and comfortable with the surrounding.

Walking into the Grand Beach, it is hard to imagine this as a meeting room. The lights and interior décor, kitchen and bar counter, beach facing windows all indicate a country-style restaurant. Yet, at the push of a button, the window blinds and projection screens start rolling down; and turning on another switch, the lighting effect changes. The Grand Beach thus turns into a seminar room for 150 guests in round-table or 200 guests theatre-style seating. Despite its flexibility, the Grand Beach is probably more suitable for MICE group dinner or lunch session because of the height limitation and some pillars in the room. These 2 main function rooms are supported by a few smaller rooms and a wedding chapel for 10 to 80 guests.

Perhaps the benefit of using the Luigans as a MICE venue is its outdoor spaces. Apart from the sea-fronting pool area, there are 2 large permanent marquees to host BBQ parties for 300 and 100 guests respectively. Also, with permission from the local authorities, MICE organizers may also use the expansive garden space and beach for team-building. Other nearby attractions include the Marine World aquarium and the Seaside Park. Therefore, the Luigans is most suitable for sea-sports and marine-themed incentive groups.
