Most people might have mistaken the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania as a historic building where the dukes of Lithuania used to live in. In fact, the ‘Palace’ is a newly constructed museum showcasing the historical functions of the site where it sits on, as well as the valuable collections by the Grand Duke and Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The Museum was actually developed on the site of the original castles and palaces that were built, destroyed and rebuilt many times since the 13th century. In the basement of the Museum, visitors can still see and learn about the excavated remains of the original castle walls and foundation.
The grand hall located on the second level is available for rental as meeting space. The classical hall is grand, and comes with fairly high ceiling. It is suitable for conference for about 200 delegates or evening gala dinner. This is the only hall that can be closed exclusively for private event in this museum, although there are other indoor exhibit halls and outdoor courtyards that can be converted into function space after public visiting hours.
Understandably, having some restrictions on visitors and event organiser to protect the museum’s collections is inevitable. However, if the museum management and event organisers are able to work out ways to make creative use of exhibit space, that will surely enhance MICE visitor experience.
